My Students

I love my job. Throughout the day, I interact with multiple classes from all different age groups. In any given day, I teach motor skills to preschoolers, ball handling to 2nd graders, or finish a basketball unit with my middle school students. My classes focus on keeping the students engaged.

My students are unique, interesting people.

They come from all walks of life and experience a plethora of different circumstances. They enjoy coming to school. They try hard and even if they fall behind, they never stop wanting to learn and do better than the day before. They love their teachers and they adore their principal. Many of our students have struggles in the lives but they always arrive at school happy and smiling, ready for new possibilities. My school is filled with people who want to be there; from the students, to the teachers, to the support staff, to the high school volunteers who assist us after school. We are a new, up-and-coming school with much room to grow. We're not perfect but we give each day our best shot. As a school community, we are absolutely thrilled for journey that awaits us.

My Project

My PE classes typically take place outdoors due to scheduling of our school's multipurpose room (gym). The only basketball hoops we have outside are 10 foot tall. This works great for middle school students but creates a challenge for elementary school students who are trying to learn proper shooting techniques and play fun, basketball-related games. These two portable, adjustable hoops would be a fantastic addition to our PE equipment and would serve over 500 elementary school students. They would be able to learn how to shoot, play a proper game of HORSE, and most importantly, gain an appreciation for a sport that many of them only see on ESPN but have never actually played.

The 500 elementary school students of my school simply don't have the means to properly practice or learn basketball.

With nowhere to aim, how can they possibly achieve success? These hoops will transform our multipurpose room into a proper gym where students can practice their skills away from the elements. They will also create opportunities for our students to master new skills like lay-ups, free-throws and rebounding. These hoops can help ignite a passion for a new sport among the students.
