Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our 10th graders need someone who inspires them to give of their best in order to discover what they already knows through one to one tutoring and mentoring. Who better than the dedicated teachers at our school.
Our 10th graders are from a predominantly low income community with 80-90% receiving free lunch at our school.
Although they face many financial hardships our students still have high academic expectations and must complete many standard exams in order to be college and career ready. We are a small urban school that believes that all of our students, with training and practice, can empower and bring change to our surrounding community in Brooklyn.
Each student is expected to propose a change in local policy, an idea or project that will impact the community either economically, socially or politically. By partnering up our 10th graders with their teachers as mentors along with the support of their parents we can solidify a plan for academic success and change in our local community.
My Project
The materials requested are Regal Movie gift cards to reward our 10th graders, teachers and parent in our Partner UP Mentoring program. Our 10th graders will be able to use the movie gift cards as a token of appreciation to thank their teachers and parents for the mentoring and guidance.
At the closing ceremonies of the Partner UP Mentoring program, our 10th graders will have the opportunity to share their gratitude for their teacher mentor and parents by giving out the Regal Movie gift cards.
Students will receive a gift card as well. We hope that by allowing students to share their appreciation and experiences it will help build stronger relationships and partnerships between them and their parents and teachers in efforts to building a strong supportive community.
