My students need 2 single message Big Mack switches to enable them to "participate and communicate" during speech-language groups and in their classrooms.

My Students
All students should have a "voice". A recordable single-message Big Mack switch provides these students with that "voice". It gives them the opportunity to "participate and communicate" during weekly speech-language groups and their classroom. It will "bridge the gap" as find their own voice.
My students are awesome!
They all have significant disabilities, but also unique and fabulous abilities! My students are generally patient, loving and accepting of others and their limitations. My students work hard every day to participate and communicate in speech groups and in their classrooms. Both of my schools are inclusive of my special needs students and include them in many daily activities. The students in general education classes include my special needs students by inviting them and helping them participate in activities like reports, "All About Me" presentations, readers theater, short plays, and classroom games. My non-verbal students increase their ability to participate in these activities with their peers by using a recordable single-message Big Mack switch. I have watched these interactions develop deep bonds between all these students and increase their understanding and acceptance of each other.
My Project
My students who are non-verbal or have limited-verbal ability can use these recordable single-message Big Mack switches to participate and communicate like their verbal peers. The Big Mack switch can be recorded by a teacher, aide, student, or family member. It is then presented to the non-verbal student and they hit the switch and the recorded message is heard. The student will use the Big Mack to request items, make comments, answer questions, describe things happening in the classroom and socially interact with others. The Big Mack switch will also be used in the general education classroom so my students can present short reports, present "All About Me" information, contribute to discussions, have parts in a play/readers theater and comment on what the other students are doing. The Big Mack switch will be used as an opportunity for these students to first participate in these activities and then communicate about these activities.
Your help in the funding of two Big Mack switches will change the lives of students at both of my elementary schools by providing them with a tool to "participate and communicate" that would otherwise not be available to them.
As these non-verbal or limited-verbal students have access to these switches, their understanding and use of verbal communication will increase.
