Greetings! This is my first year as Instructional Technology Coach at an amazing school where we are “Building a Community of Leaders.” We are a Title I school located in rural South Carolina. After 18 years in education, I am excited about this new journey and all the learning opportunities it will bring. I know that working with students in kindergarten through 5th grade will bring challenges that will strengthen us all. Welcome to our tech adventure and fasten your seatbelts for the ride!
If there is one lesson that I have learned, it is not to place my own limitations on my students.
When you serve students in a high need, high poverty area, every advantage has the potential to be life-changing. No matter what challenges our students may face in life, they come to school ready to learn and eager to explore.
My Project
Learning about computer science is important for today's 21st Century students. This year, our school is launching a club through Google’s CS FIRST program that will allow students to explore and learn the basics of coding. Each week these students will volunteer to meet and participate in a focused computer science lesson.
The end of the year is quickly approaching, and these students are excited for more hands-on learning.
Botley, the Coding Robot, will provide students with the chance to build their own challenges and explore the basics of coding with an easy-to-use device. In addition to the computer science lessons, students will also have the chance to explore with a variety of hands-on activities to demonstrate what they are learning about coding.
