This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our self-contained ASD Preschool classroom includes 12 three and four-year-olds with various abilities. Our students are hands-on learners who require short and engaging activities.

They are happy and curious learners who: think very concretely and literally, learn through their experiences at home and at school, learn with their whole bodies; love to taste, touch, move, explore, smell, watch, and wonder.

They look forward to coming to school and experiencing a range of activities. They are always ready to engage in active learning. Each day is focused on structure and exposure to new ideas and constructive work.

My Project

Builders will work together to create ramps to roll marbles and balls, tall buildings, and long roads. Each of the projects they work on will develop problem-solving and planning skills as they work. They will create dams and do water pouring and measuring experiments, use wind and air (when safe) to make things move across different surfaces. All of these activities develop critical thinking skills and help them to discover how things work.

The foam blocks, wooden ramps, trays, tubes, cylinders, and spheres will provide the young physicists the opportunity to have hands-on engagement with many different materials and objects.

As we use Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in our classroom, we want to provide students with the opportunities to encounter STEM activities that most children have in their preschools.
