Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students consist of three and four year olds who love to learn. They are eager to explore through hands on activities and I'm eager to engage them in meaningful play experiences to foster life long learning experiences. They range in different levels of academic achievement including language development and about 50% are English Language Learners.
Our school is an early childhood center whose motto is to spread a love of learning and respect for one another.
Learning can only take place when our students care about their school and friends. Caring for your friends and teachers starts with role models so that students take pride in their school and learning will naturally occur.
My Project
Providing proof of student work to parents is essential to share a glimpse of their child's progress. Sharing this information and engaging parents in their child's learning will foster learning in the home. During parent / teacher conferences, I share areas of strengths, suggestions, student work, anecdotes etc in the folders to provide them with a picture of where their child is across all academic domains. Parents will be invited to sit with their child and work on activities and strategies provided in the folders in the home. Engaging parents in their child's learning will ensure that optimal learning occurs. To do this, I will need these folders to compile the data for the parents to keep and to reflect on.
Compiling information for parents is key to maintain the best home and school connection so that every child learns.
When parents review the information provided in their portfolio, they can continue to help their child learn by working on areas of strength or working on suggestions provided.
