This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a kindergarten teacher of 23 five year olds in an urban area school, I am constantly trying to find new ways to enhance the lives of the children in my class.
Although I am responsible for the academic achievement and growth of my students, I find it important to also nourish their desire for fun. Fun is a necessity for young children. Play allows them to grow socially and create physical fitness, if performed with the right equipment. A play parachute can "kill two birds with one stone".
Teacher-guided activities in an outdoor environment will not only provide endless hours of fun for the children involved, but will simultaneously create experiences for learning. Being part of a group activity where directions need to be followed on how to manipulate the parachute will create fun and learning. Being able to follow directions is an integral part of Early Childhood Education. And so is FUN!
If you have ever been with a five year old you know that the simplest of things can create the best fun. Whether it is running under the parachute, sitting on top of it while all your friends create wind or hiding underneath the parachute as it falls on your head, it is definite that fun will be had by all. And what is life without a little fun?
