This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
"Ms. Fyer, do you have any paper?" I hear this question every day, in every class. I in turn then ask my assistant principal and school secretary, "Is there any paper?" The fact of the matter is that while technology might be changing how we do everything in this world, children still learn best through tactile contact, pen/pencil to paper. It is impossible (in my opinion) to annotate deeply and thoughtfully using a computer. Students are resistant at first because it takes time and they have weak attention spans because of all of the technology in their lives.
The paper will be used for copies of worksheets, the textbook, and other secondary and primary sources.
The lined paper will be used for daily classwork and most importantly for essays as we prepare for the Regents exam in Global History and all of the writing required for AP World History. It is the lack of paper that becomes an issue on a daily basis. Can students bring their own paper? Yes, many of them do. However, in our school, many students come unprepared frequently. I am not going to have a student lose a day of instruction because they do have paper.
We are so grateful to you for supporting us with this truly important grant, as always, it is the little things that make a big difference.
