Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach in a high needs community at a Title 1 school. Our school is located in an urban city in a very large school district. My classroom is a Special Education self contained classroom. My students are diagnosed with learning disabilities and/or ADHD, with or without speech and language disorders.

Many of my students told me they never saw a ladybug!!! I found that hard to believe. I would like to add ladybugs to our classroom. I would also like them to make charts, study guides and student logs about their observations. I need to encourage them and excite them to get motivated to work. I want the students to make their own materials. Our school has no supplies. Our students did not even get new workbooks this year. There is also no copy machine for teachers to use at our school. There is no money for extras no matter the need. But with these live bugs and fun paper items they will learn a great science lesson, while at the same time improving their reading and writing.

I would like some ladybug kits and some colored markers and pens. My students will make foldable notes using colored paper and bright markers. Many of my students have attention problems and this will be sure to catch their interest. The students will then take their notes home as a fun study guide. These are called foldables and are a great way to increase student's knowledge on a particular subject. Having the paper and the colored pens will stimulate the students who do not like to write. They will also have a beautiful study guide to take home and share with their family, fostering a connection between school and home.

Your donation will fund this needed project. It will brighten my students day and bring a smile to their face. They love art materials and love to use them. They will not even know they are learning they will so excited with the different supplies. They need a lot of creative items to entice them and capture their attention. My students are precious to me and I want them to learn all that they can. They have enough obstacles in their way. Help me make this dream come true, donate to this much needed project.
