This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My fifth grade students are eager to learn but face many challenges. We are a Title I school, meaning the majority of our students come from low-income households and require supplemental funds to help meet their educational needs. Ninety percent of our children receive free lunch and can barely afford the "basics" needed for success in school.
Most of my students are English language learners, many of whom are newcomers.
They are learning to adjust and are excited to learn. Unfortunately, they are accustomed to "doing without" or using supplies from previous years and are so appreciative of new materials that I am sometimes able to provide for them.
My Project
This year I am finding myself in great need of paper for my class. Between reading and writing assignments, projects, ELA packets and now test prep which all need to be adapted for English language learners and students with different learning levels and abilities, paper is just one of the basic necessities of the school day.
A supply of paper will help me provide supplemental materials that support classroom instruction and accommodate all of my students.
Unfortunately, we don't have the budget for paper and are not able to make copies in school like we once were. Please consider supporting this project so that I can better provide for my students' educational needs.
