My Students

My students are 6th graders in a middle school setting in Ca.
Some come from "money", but many come from backgrounds that can and are very challenging. Some of our students are on free/reduced lunch and do not have the luxuries that other students sitting around them do. They are fun loving, eager to learn, and always wanting to work in groups to create a skit or poster on whatever the standard/topic we are learning for that day is.
My Project
After a six week unit in poetry, the students are going to have a culminating activity by publishing their own 20 poems. By having these books, the students can then use their imagination to create, illustrate, and publish their poems. This is a huge standard for students in sixth grade in CA and by having a fun, culminating activity, it takes something that can be hard (poetry) and makes it fun and exciting for the students.
The students will have something they can always look back at even years from now.
For some, it may be just what they needed to build the excitement about poetry that can one day make them published authors! Please help us :)
