Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In my classroom we move a lot between carpet and table time to keep students engaged in learning. I strive daily to have my students be able to be at grade level at the end of the year. I am challenging my students to use different approaches to learning especially using 21st century skills.
Our school and staff pride ourselves on our "Disneyland Theme" and this year "We Won't Stop Believing" in our students.
My students come and leave school very happy and look forward to the next day. My students are all English Language Learners, who are in a Structured English Instructed class. The English language is very difficult for them and they need extra support through the use of visuals and hands on materials. My students also need various extensions to help support their education.
My Project
All the materials being requested will help the students across literacy and math programs. This year I was asked to pilot a new Math curriculum. The math curriculum asks teachers to engage students to think about the previous lesson by starting with a challenge problem, but it requires sheet protectors, expo markers, and lots of paper. I will need the paper cutter to create the problems for each lesson. In return, the sheet protectors will also work as personal whiteboards during literacy groups for the use of our Daily 5 during our Universal Access Time. During our Daily 5 Time one of the stations is our Listening Center and the headphone splitters will allow multiple students to listen to a story quietly using our iPads while the other students are at different centers. This year we also have an online Math program (Sokikom) that our students can utilize and the headphone splitters can be used for that purpose as well.
My project will challenge my students to use multiple approaches across subjects during the day.
My students will have the opportunity to learn and practice skills using technology through the use of the headphone splitters with the IPads through daily use that they might not have gotten before. The sheet protectors, paper, markers and paper cutter will allow all students multiple uses during the day through literacy groups and whole group math work.
