My Students
My classroom is a place in which students are challenged to think outside of the box and to really delve into the literature they read. Many have never read any of the "great" books that are out there, and I consistently try to expose them to books that will inspire and make them think.
My students are 8th graders in Brooklyn, NY.
They come from a diverse community and many come from homes where English is not the first language. They are very enthusiastic about my class, yet need real support and resources in order to engage with meaningful books and literature. The interest is indeed there--but the resources are not. I do my best to supply them with as many books, paper and supplies as possible, but it isn't always easy!
My Project
My students need paper and printer toner for our classroom printer. My students will use these supplies so they can print out the projects they do at home. Most students have a computer, but most families cannot afford to maintain a printer. Ink and paper is expensive and many students cannot turn in assignments because they cannot print at home.
This project will allow students to have the freedom to print whatever they need for school for at least a few months.
They will compose their own essays, graphic organizers and PowerPoint presentations on the computers, and will able to print their work so that it can be shared and displayed.
