My students need new art supplies such as Sharpies, markers, Post-it notes, glue sticks, and more to create group projects of all kinds this year.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Don't let creativity be lost in academics! Keep our classroom going with new art supplies.
My students attend a public high school in a largely working-class community in California.
The community around our school is one where violence, drug use and sales, and gang activity are common. The students in my classes are a part of the AVID program, which means they are aiming to be the first in their families to go to college. I am blown away by the courage, dedication, and perseverance of my students on a daily basis. Often times they are dealing with incredible obstacles, yet they push themselves and support each other, which creates an incredibly inspirational community.
My Project
Imagine being a part of that community and opening a box filled with colorful markers, newly sharpened colored pencils, fresh gooey glue sticks, bright post it notes, and crisply edged rulers. Curiosity and possibility fill the mind immediately. With "Pandora's Boxes of Creativity," group work and inspiration are mixed together, and the magic can really start to happen. Whether it is creating an advertisement for a community health advocacy project in our elective or detailing a visually engaging group plan for reconstruction on butcher paper in History class, creativity is the engine that gets great minds moving critically. Creativity, however, gets stifled when markers fade, rulers are chipped, and glue sticks dry up. Without new art supplies, the opportunity for creative group work is merely imagined.
By donating to this project, you can help increase the opportunity for students to work together, exchange critical dialog, and build community through creativity.
They will be able to open that box and experience the inspiration that can push them toward greatness. What better way to be involved in the learning process than to provide the catalyst for creativity?
