This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach first grade in an inner city TITLE I school. Many of my students are English Language Learners. My students are so eager to learn about a myriad of topics including animals, weather, how things are made, books and authors.
My students need a dvd/vcr player so that they can watch different educational videos. I have videos in topics such as animals, biographies (of authors and artists!), books (Eric Carle's best) and books that have been made into movies. One of my students' favorites is "The Polar Express". We've already read the book this year. Now I'd like to show them the dvd so that we can compare and contrast them, but we need a dvd player. With cuts to the education budget, a dvd player will not be possible without your support.
My class needs a dvd/vcr player. This will help my English Language Learners tremendously because they will be able to visualize the spoken word easily. It will also reach my visual learners.
Your generosity will allow my students to watch educational programming in numerous curriculum areas. I have found a wealth of dvd's and VHS cassettes at my public library that dovetail perfectly with my curriculum. Please help me use this technology with my students!
