This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Early readers learn comprehension by reading fluently! A Panasonic camcorder will allow my students to see and hear themselves read (books, small plays or their own writing). It will also keep their interest level high in today's technologically advanced world!

My first grade class is located in an inner city Title I school.

The students in my school are entitled to free breakfast and lunch. What we lack in resources, we make up for in enthusiasm! My students are highly motivated by all things electronic. This past year our class was thrilled to have a television funded by donorschoose.org. My vision for this coming year is for the students to be able to have the use of a camcorder which will allow them the immediate feedback of viewing themselves on our television!

My Project

My students perform small plays in class (Reader's Theater). With the camcorder, I'll be able to film the children and allow them to watch themselves immediately afterward. That will help them improve their reading fluency as they can hear for themselves what they need to improve! I can also film the students when they perform in such things as our school's Multicultural Show, holiday and spring concerts and other special events. I can share these exciting moments with working parents at a time that is more convenient for them. The camcorder will not only get the class excited about reading, it will motivate them to write as well. Our new writing curriculum states that first graders should "use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, in collaboration with peers." I strongly believe that the students will be highly motivated to work together to write poems, plays, and commercials if it means that they will be able to perform for the camera!

A Panasonic camcorder will bring a new level of creativity to our classroom.

With such equipment, motivation to read and write and perform will be at an all time high! Due to drastic cuts to the education budget, this project will not be funded without your generosity!
