This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students need more opportunities to develop their naturalistic intelligence. This project will be a mix of science and art education as we create and maintain a small living environment in the art room for everyone to enjoy. Students will create an art project planning and designing their own paludarium based on the living example in the classroom and research that they conduct in class.

Students will be able to plan, assemble and maintain the classroom paludarium with the grow light hood, mister, air pump, filter, cleaning tools and hardscape materials.

They will be able to create a realistic environment with the cork background.

The paludarium maintenance will help build our sense of community as students take turns caring for terrestrial and aquatic life. Students will vote for the nano fish, micro shrimp or crabs that will be living in the lower aquarium first.

This project will add excitement to their day and will nurture our students' interest in nature and help them develop an appreciation for the beauty of the natural world. The hands-on experience of maintaining a balanced environment that supports life will instill guiding principles that result in students making better choices related to caring for and connecting with the environment.
