Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are lively little ones that are excited and anxious to new activities. They enjoy hands-on activities and dance. My students present developmental delays but what makes this group so special is that they all help one another and build each other up.
My students are special not because of their disabilities but because among each other they are kind, helpful, and respectful.
They all have a variety of disabilities and they are all unique in their own way.
My Project
My students enjoy books overall. They enjoy sensory books, listening to books, and "reading" books. We are fortunate to have a listening center but our books are way too torn. Listening to books on CD will be used in as one of our rotating centers and it helps build phonemic awareness, fluency, and understand language. Math and science books help them see life cycles, counting, and the weather is needed for their development and curriculum.
These materials will benefit the different needs and interests my students have.
Our new books help create age-appropriate lessons that are developed by our Creative Curriculum that meets the diverse needs of my students. Sensory books will help stimulate their senses and cognition. I've also chosen transportation books because it is their favorite and we try to incorporate mini-lessons for things that go. Of these much-needed materials are defined by simple text and rich illustrations needed for their interests and learning.
