Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are motivated to become artists and they attend an arts high school in the cultural vibrancy of downtown Los Angeles. We are an audition-free, public arts high school, and our students enjoy a rigorous art and academic education. My students are racially diverse, mainly low-income with over 70% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, making us a Title I school. They enjoy the local museums, participate in the arts, and thrive in the urban environment.
Our school has a dual mission of excellence in both the arts and academic studies, and our students graduate ready for college and also for further study in the arts.
We have a 99% graduation rate! Each student has as many as 12 art classes during high school, as well as exhibitions, and they participate in national and local art contests. We win more Scholastic Art Awards than any high school in the western United States. These hardworking kids appreciate what they have. You would like them, and you will love their artwork. We have a mission and a mandate to integrate the arts. They are creative, ambitious, and certain to make great use of any art supplies that come their way.
My Project
This is perhaps the least romantic of projects, but so essential to our work. I am asking for many, many plastic containers so that each of my 120 painting students can make their own paint set that can travel home with them so they may work on nights and weekends. The great news is we have the paint to fill the containers, and students will be able to take what they need to create their artwork. Painting 1 and Painting 2 work on a variety of classical and abstract assignments throughout the year.
Your gift of a watercolor set allows students to paint the world over!
This mighty little set can be used in cramped spaces, as well as on empty beaches! This paint set knows no limits and my students will love you for them. They are already receiving a sketchbook, which will mean they are ready to create!
