This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are motivated to become artists and they attend an arts high school in the cultural vibrancy of downtown Los Angeles. We are an audition-free, public arts high school, and our students enjoy a rigorous art and academic education. My students are racially diverse, mainly low-income with over 70% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, making us a Title I school. They enjoy the local museums, participate in the arts, and thrive in the urban environment.
Our school has a dual mission of excellence in both the arts and academic studies, and our students graduate ready for college and also for further study in the arts.
We have a 99% graduation rate! Each student has as many as 12 art classes during high school, as well as exhibitions, and they participate in national and local art contests. We win more Scholastic Art Awards than any high school in the western United States. These hardworking kids appreciate what they have. You would like them, and you will love their artwork. We have a mission and a mandate to integrate the arts. They are creative, ambitious, and certain to make great use of any art supplies that come their way.
My Project
This project puts paints into the hands of my students, giving them what they need to create at school or at home. This gift will help students in Painting 1 have what they need to do their homework all year, and just having the paints will be so inspiring.
Each of my students needs their own brush set in order to be an artist.
This is a small travel set of paint brushes that will allow students to work at home, as well as in our art studios. They will love having what they need to create at home and we all know there is so much pride in ownership! Students in Painting 1 make a painting each week at home in their sketchbooks. We expect great things from these mighty brushes!
