My Project
In order to help my 7th and 8th grade students stay off the streets after school, I have dedicated myself to stay after school and host an after school painting program in my classroom. Because I teach Science to these students naturally, I do not have the materials in my classroom to do more fun enriched learning. Each week, students will learn about different artists, art styles, and get to use all different types of art mediums. We believe artistic enrichment is a crucial element of a great education. Through the process of creating art, children expand their minds, they make discoveries, they thrive! Studies show that through the joy of creative art experiences, children develop essential life- long skills, such as creative problem solving, out-of-the-box thinking, expressiveness, and rich imaginations. My program will provide hands-on art-based experiences enjoyed in a relaxing and encouraging setting.
In my classroom, my students are free to express themselves in a variety of different ways, art being one of them.
With the ever so demanding CPS budget cuts, art is becoming a thing of the past in the Middle School classroom. Teachers are forced to spend their own money to buy materials for their classrooms and after school programs, which can become very costly. I am asking for donations to bring in a way for my children to express themselves using art during an After School program. The easels, canvas, smocks and painting materials will be a great way to keep these kids active and off the streets!!
