Painting Pictures in My Mind

My students need books that I can read out loud to them and chapter books that they can read to themselves.

My Students

Can you imagine moving to a new country from a tiny little island? Most of my students are from the Micronesia, a group of islands in the Pacific Ocean. The families have to adjust to a new culture and language. Our school is a low income school with a large population of English Language Learners.

Many of my students are struggling in their education and reading is the key to their success.

My students come to my class for small group reading instruction.

My Project

These materials will be used to help my students become good readers.

These books are chosen because they are popular picture books for students with limited or interrupted formal education.

I work with small groups of ELL students who are reading below their grade level. These students miss a lot of information in their classes because they can not read at their grade level.

The chapter books are chosen for small group reading, so the students can practice the mechanics of reading and enjoy the story. These are books that are fun to read and the students can use the words to paint pictures in their mind.
