Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic kindergartners who are full of life. They are sweet, smart, and incredibly ready to learn! They are like little sponges, coming in each day, ready to grow and understand even more about their world!

My students are hard workers who love the arts.

I want to inspire them to be more creative and to take more risks. I want them to dream big and know that hard work will help them succeed in everything they do!

My Project

Children learn in many different ways, and younger children may not be ready to express themselves thoroughly with written or oral language. Art activities and art education in kindergarten and beyond are extremely important. I am requesting painting and art supplies for my students to use in conjunction with our Kinder Corner curriculum.

As we are learning about our thematic units, each individual student will be provided a means for expressing himself or herself through art.

One of the units we will learn about is titled "I Am Amazing! I Feel Fine!" and focuses on teaching about self-esteem and feelings. Some of my students may not yet be able to write a story about how they feel, but my kindergartners may draw a happy picture, paint a sad picture, and choose colors and lines that express their moods and emotions. When my students are free to create, they develop self-confidence and they become more creative and imaginative.

Having art in the classroom can create a sense of cooperation and belonging to a group. Some projects, such as a culturally diverse mural of handprints or a wall of paper plate faces, can encourage cooperation and working together. During learning labs time, my students will learn to support group members, share, help each other and work as a team.
