This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an urban high school that has a lack of necessary materials and resources for our students to thrive. Our neighborhood is high poverty and we are considered to be one of the most challenging schools in our area. We have serious attendance problems and many students who are not engaged in learning.

I have taught here for eighteen years and enjoy the creative spirit of my students.

Over the years, I have had the pleasure of seeing my students discover talents they never knew they had. I strive to expose them to as many diversified, artistic experiences as I can.

In our present situation of teaching with a hybrid model, all of my students are working with an art program on their laptops. This is challenging for everyone and has changed our way of learning.

My Project

There are many emotions being felt as we move through this school year. Students are experiencing many changes in the way they go to school, interact with families and friends, and go about the world. I am requesting painting supplies to express their feelings in the form of a paint.

I would like our students to express their feeling in a small painting that we can display around our school and on our school website.

The painting can be composed of words or symbols that express an emotion or feeling the student is experiencing. It will also be an enjoyable and creative hands-on art project.
