This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I firmly believe art is what makes us human. I am a retired teacher now working with a volunteer art program (CRAVE) at my school. It's an excellent program that supports all the students as a supplement to the curriculum.

Our school is an ethnically and socioeconomically diverse city school in an older neighborhood.

The students that will benefit from this project are to pre-K - 5th graders who love their art. For most of the students, this is their first experience with learning about making art that is more than holiday crafts. They are so excited to learn about new medium and technique along with learning about famous artists.

My Project

My school has a fantastic new art program run by a wonderful artist and team of volunteers. This program benefits all 600 students.

We are planning an exciting community building activity called Paint With Parents.

Our hope is to bring students and community together for a paint night. We hope to bring the parents in for a night where students and parents come to participate in an art lesson using acrylic paint on canvas. This way the parents and community will see how much fun and how much value art is our curriculum. Thanks to the generosity of DonorsChoose.org donors just like you, we have the project for the brushes funded and we are on our way on the project for the canvases. This acrylic paint would round out the trilogy! We are hoping to make this a small fund-raiser for our art new art program and the paint will be used for future projects as well.

This event will give the parents an opportunity to see how excited the children are to make art like a real artist and join in the fun.
