Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a 3rd grade teacher in an inner city school in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. My students all come from low income families and all qualify for free or reduced-priced lunches.

Paint like Picasso! My students are fortunate enough to be able to travel to many of the local museums using public transportation to study various masterpieces and painting styles of well known artists.

We are in need of various studio painting supplies, like acrylic paint and canvases, not normally available to us. We will use them to explore the medium and create portraits and self-portraits in a Picasso-like style after learning about his influence on modern art and studying his prolific work and many styles. They will learn to use the medium as well as learn about the color wheel and mixing paints to make complimentary colors and tints and shades.

You will make it possible for my students to experience something not normally available to them. They will have the opportunity to paint with real artist's materials like acrylic paint on canvas to give them a personal connection to the artist and make the learning more meaningful for them.
