This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I absolutely love my students' curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. They come to school each day eager to explore new ideas and concepts, and it’s inspiring to see their faces light up when they discover something new. The board books I’ve selected for this project have been carefully chosen to support our instructional goals and will be used in both guided lessons and then put in our learning centers for independent exploration.
Board books are developmentally appropriate for Pre-K students because they are designed with the specific needs and learning styles of young children in mind.
Their durability ensures that they can withstand the rough handling typical of preschoolers, while the thick, sturdy pages promote tactile exploration and fine motor skill development. The bright colors and simple illustrations capture young children's attention, and the limited text introduces basic literacy concepts in an accessible way.
For instance, the counting and shape books will make math concepts tangible and fun during our math lessons, while the weather and lifecycle books will spark their interest in science. The ABC and pattern books will enhance their literacy skills, helping them build a strong foundation for reading. Additionally, the social studies books will introduce them to different careers and the importance of leadership, broadening their understanding of the community.
After our lessons, these books will be placed in our learning centers for independent exploration, allowing them to engage with the material at their own pace. Reading board books together creates shared experiences that strengthen bonds and introduce children to basic narrative structures and characters, fostering empathy and emotional understanding. By providing these resources, I aim to create a print-rich environment that encourages exploration and fosters a love for reading.
