My Project
What I love most about my students is their unique potential and enthusiasm for learning, despite the challenges they face. In a Title I school where 58% of our students live in poverty and over 70% are from minority backgrounds, it is vital to create an inviting and supportive learning environment.
My project aims to transform the typical middle school setting, which often feels sterile and unwelcoming, into a cozy and colorful space that encourages reading.
I believe that 6th graders should not have to leave behind the comfort of their elementary schools, and my goal is to bridge that gap. By providing comfortable seating, a rotating bookshelf, a floor table, floor pillows, lighting, and a designated reading area, I hope to instill a love for reading in my students.
A welcoming environment will allow them to associate comfort with reading, fostering a mindset that nurtures their literacy skills. Each resource we implement will help create this space and encourage our students to engage with books more actively.
