My Students
My students are ingenious. They are brave in their thinking, audacious in their beliefs and joyous in their learning. Our middle school students embrace arts integration and are able to take classroom common core curriculum and transform it into visual arts, poetry, and plays.
My students thrive in our rich arts integrated learning.
My background is in theatre and I bring that into the classroom. We use art, especially theater arts, to show our understanding in vocabulary, historical events, rhetorical concepts, and interpretations of literature. Best of all, we use drama to instruct and entertain the younger children to great success! Since Covid-19, we have created school plays and hosted school wide fashion shows for our younger classmates.
The next step in affirming my students as learners and to amplify their learning is to create a drama program. A program that is created and curated by them.
My Project
My students are already doing great arts integration work. They are able to take text from the pages of the narrative and history books and transform them for the stage. As a teacher, this is true comprehension and understanding of text.
All we need now is a stage.
