My Students
The world is changing more and more each day and our teaching methods must change with it. Children do not have as much support at home as many of us did growing up. I want to help provide access for my students that may not otherwise have the opportunity to use 21st century technology
I teach a large kindergarten class made up of 22 eager and ready to learn 5 year olds in a high poverty area of South Carolina.
My students come from a low-income, rural area of South Carolina, but are very eager to learn new things. They attend a large elementary school which houses pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.
My Project
Having an iPad in our classroom will make quality literature available to my students that may not have been available to them otherwise due to their reading difficulties. This technology will allow my struggling students to have the iPad read all of the text or selections that they are struggling with. This technology will also allow my students to learn while "playing" fun educational apps to help with math skills as well. What an amazing gift my students will receive when they learn that reading and math can be as fun and adventurous as their favorite video game or television show.
The biggest obstacle we face today in getting technology is funding.
As school districts are forced to cut their budget, technology purchases are among the first to be cut although we are still required to make sure our students are proficient in using technology. Please help me to give my students this opportunity for proficiency.
