My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/ poverty school district, my students are bombarded with challenges that interfere with some progress in the classroom. However, my students, regardless of what life throws at them, come ready to learn.

My students are talented, fun, and very creative with their hands.

I am greeted with a hug which in turn validates the reason why I accepted this position. I recognize their good works and acknowledge their presence from the moment they enter the room. If I could express more about my students, I would say that I am privileged and honored to teach each one of them.

The students actually inspired me to complete this project. The reason for the project was to make a change that would impact instruction for my students.

My Project

My students need backpacks to carry all their supplies for financial literacy. The pockets on the backpack will enable the students to keep their loose coins and money in a secure place. The book "Five Money Habits Every Child Should Know" will provide the students with a visual and help them grasp the value and importance of saving their money.

Students need visuals and hands-on experiences to understand the financial world.

When using the play money, it will help students to identify coins and different bills, make bills, and exchange money in the classroom store. My students will appreciate the opportunity to carry a backpack of supplies that increase their understanding about financial literacy.
