The students I teach come from an area that, over the years has been a high poverty, high crime area. It is my goal to change that stigma and help give them the best of every opportunity that I can whether it be by providing basics, or new opportunities.
The students I teach are eager to learn, and soak up new information like sponges.
All 20 of them keep me on my toes at all parts of the day. I wouldn't trade my time with them for anything! They are busy and active learners, and this project will help them be more active in a strategic way while increasing brain function at the same time.
My Project
This year I have the unique opportunity of moving up a grade level with my students from last year, so we are now in 3rd grade together!
Moving up a grade also means needing more books of
a higher reading level. Based off of the program we use to assess student's reading levels, by the end of 3rd grade students should be a level P.
It is just the start of the 3rd week of school and I've already heard "there aren't anymore P books!" more times than I would like. It is my hope to be able to provide a variety of fiction and nonfiction books that are of this level to help students have variety to choose from, and to also help push them to want to read to achieve that P (or higher) by the end of the year!
