A is for Apple, R is for Red, P is for Printer making everything look dead. Color is an essential part of my students’ lives. Many of my special education students are drawn to things that are bright and colorful. They become excited about learning when the books they are taught with include engaging color pictures and full color photographs. Being able to see real life images about what they are reading helps them to make real world connections, increase their vocabulary, and improve their reading comprehension. Color draws them in and gets them excited about learning.
Unfortunately, many of the books and workbooks that my students use are completely black and white.
These books don't have the same attraction that a book printed in color does. Black and white books are the books they must read, not the ones they want to read. Reading becomes something they are required to do instead of something they enjoy doing.
As a special education teacher I have been given access to numerous online resources where I can obtain and print short colorful books. However, when printing in large quantities I am required to use the black and white printer, making even the most exciting books look dull and dead. This color printer will allow me to provide colorful and engaging books to my students. Its ability to accommodate larger paper allows me to print bigger and more exciting books while using less paper. This is not only cost effective but frees up classroom storage space allowing for a greater variety of books. The long lasting, inexpensive, ink allows me to print multiple copies of a book for small groups or multiple books for a single student. In short, this printer helps me to meet my students’ unique and individual needs.
