My Students

I currently teach 5th grade at BES. This school is brand new and has a Project Based Learning (PBL) and STEM focus. I teach approximately fifty, fifth graders Language Arts, Social Studies, and STEM/PBL. Being a brand new school is extremely exciting. We get to create the climate and culture of the school.

Being BES, we have started off the year with many engineering activities, building bridges!

My students have built bridges with craft sticks and straws. They have learned about different types of bridges and their characteristics. My students are very enthusiastic and have LOVED these activities and I am thrilled at the chance to work more on Project Based Learning and STEM projects. We are trying to instill in them all 21st century learning skills.

My Project

My students need hands on experiences with 21st century learning skills. BES is brand new and has a STEM and Project Based Learning (PBL) focus. With this focus all students will be learning coding on the computer. Using the Ozobots students will have a chance to see their coding skills in action.

The Ozobots will be used in small groups to solve puzzles, practice coding, and use 21st century skills.

They will need to use communication in their groups working through puzzles and problems. They will also have time to create, using their Ozobot, making their own puzzles. Collaboration will be key in groups to work through coding the Ozobot. Critical thinking will be used in all aspects of using the Ozobot. Thus, the use of Ozobots will benefit all aspects of 21st century learning.
