As with most kindergartners, my students are eager to play and learn. They are very curious about the world around them, and they are eager to use their natural creativity to make sense of that world. Although they are in a high-poverty school, they see the world through the same five-year-old eyes as anyone. They need supplies provided to them to make the most of their curiosity and eagerness to learn. I want them to go into the world with any advantage I can provide.
Right now we are working virtually, but hopefully, it will be safe again soon to be in the classroom.
My Project
As children grow they use the things around them to discover their world. Children exposed to books in their homes have better reading skills and enjoy reading more.
This project is aimed at getting books into students' homes.
I want them to take ownership of the books. I want them to read their books so much they become as worn and loved as the Velveteen Rabbit. I want them to come into school and share their books for show-and-tell. My goal, as a kindergarten teacher, is to give my students a lifelong love of reading.
