My students need small group reading and math activities to use during stations in order to get them ready for the new Common Core Standards and expectations.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever tried to read a foreign language you were not familiar with? This is how some of the students at my school feel when they are not able to read their own language! Through various phonics and reading activities, as well as a lot of practice, these students can become successful!
The students at my school are not only creative and enthusiastic, but they are always striving to become better.
Most of them come from working class, single parent families, so they do not receive a lot of individual attention at home to help them with their reading or completion of homework. Therefore, they are unable to practice their skills as much as they need to at home. I want them to have as enriching an experience at school as possible, and I believe that with the purchase of these materials, they will be guaranteed to improve and learn a great deal.
My Project
Some of the materials I requested were phonics and fluency activities. With the phonics activities, students can practice seeing patterns in words, as well as learning word families which will help them generalize and read more challenging texts. The fluency activities can help students read more naturally and feel more confident in their reading, as well as hold themselves accountable for their progress. I also requested paper and other supplies to help me create or print out extra activities for the students to practice learning vocabulary, comprehension, and other skills that will help them be successful readers. Lastly, I requested some math activities for the students to practice the first grade skills they now need to know due to the recent adoption of the Common Core Standards with our new reading and math curriculums.
I really want my students to have all the necessary materials they need at school in order to feel more comfortable and confident in their abilities.
They deserve the opportunity to enrich themselves at school so that then they will be able to borrow some of my books and read on their own at home. I know that with these materials they WILL be successful in school and in the future.
