This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a predominantly low income school, 100% of my students receive free lunch. My students are very excited and rambunctious 6th graders that look forward to coming to school. I teach all the subjects to my 6th graders.

I would like to have my students dissect an owl pellet and see what the owl eats and how it affects the food chain.

My students love science and I have brought this topic up and they are so excited! They are excited to dissect the owl pellets and curious to see what they will find.

My Project

I would love to have the owl pellets that they can dissect and the charts and DVD that help explain the process. The Diorama™ would be very helpful because it would give my students a visualization of what can be found in the owl pellets. The students would be able to identify skulls and mandibles of 5 mammal prey usually contained in an owl’s diet by using the Diorama.

What might not be appealing to some, fascinates others!

I'm talking about owl pellets. They are to owls what hair balls are to cats. My students are looking forward to getting their hands dirty and digging in. This hands-on project will keep them engaged and teach them about the barn owl, a fascinating creature.
