Owl Pellets For All! A Study About Birds

My Project

We have spent the past 9 weeks studying about birds and the features that make them unique. We will spend the next 9 weeks deepening our understanding of birds, how they survive, and how to care for them.

This project will allow my students to get a hands-on experience with the concepts we have been learning about by giving each of them an owl pellet to dissect!

So far, we have only been able to read about the habits and features of birds. I am excited to bring these concepts to life by allowing my students to see for themselves what birds eat, why their physical features (beaks, feathers, and wings) are important, and how they survive in their habitats. This will bridge the gap between pictures and words in the books we read to real-life observations. It is not often we get the chance to break away from paper and pencils and step outside our comfort zones to further our learning. I am excited to see my students' reactions when they realize what they are examining! I hope this project ignites a love of learning and curiosity in my students that they would otherwise not have the opportunity to experience. Thank you for helping me bring this project to life for my students!
