Owl Pellet Investigations!

Help me give my students an owl pellet to dissect so that they may learn about how structure and function supports owls' survival, growth and behavior.

My Project

Dissecting owl pellets will make a difference in my students' learning because it gives them a hands-on experience that is fascinating and inspirational! It's so much more meaningful to "become" a scientist by using tools, making observations, and discovering owl facts such as their diet, habitat, and animals who live near them.

The goal of this project is for students to dissect owl pellets to learn about owls' diet, digestion, and the structure and function that support their growth, development and behavior.

Students will identify an owl's prey, classify bones, and collect data about measurements such as weight, length, and circumference of the owl pellet. We will also create infographics of our owl pellets, and write about what we find!

My students are curious, energetic, thoughtful, and observant learners who love to DO! They love science and nature -- they have enjoyed creating scientific sketches of animals and plants, they care for our schoolyard gardens, they research and have compassion for endangered species, and have a special place in their hearts for all animals and learning!
