Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. I greet them daily with a good morning and a hug. I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything.
My scholars are bright and energetic!
I would like to make my classroom as inviting and warm as possible. This is where we spend each day, so it is our second home. Our school is one big family. We look out for each other and are always willing to give a helping hand. In our class, it's okay to make mistakes, as long as we learn from them. We say please and thank you and always remember to be polite. We can't control what others say but how we react to it. It is okay to get upset, but not okay to hurt others. We give respect to earn respect and we treat others how we want to be treated. I am very fortunate because I am able to go to work every day to students who are my world.
My Project
Many of the students I serve come from homes experiencing financial hardship. These students are our most vulnerable and are those who are most negatively impacted by not having access to reading materials from school or public libraries. They are all closed.
Reading books online is not the same as having a book in your hand.
Many of these students are struggling academically and do not have home libraries or the ability to place an order online. It is imperative that we find ways to get books into their hands. My goal is to get 1-2 books in every student's hand so they can avoid the summer slide. Also by reading these books, students can complete novel studies and book reports. Some students also live near each other so they switch books. The important thing is to just keep reading!
