My students need 4 copies of each of 12 book titles about people who have overcome obstacles to achieve greatness.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Will's classroom raised $853
This project is fully funded
I teach in a high school that serves predominantly African American students. My students come from rough neighborhoods and have brilliant minds. Many of my students have parents and grandparents who did not attend college. Because they do not have stories about college to hear from their parents, many of them lack a full understanding of what college means.
My students desperately need to see people like them who have "made it" to college and beyond. Because many of my students do not know a lot of people who have graduated from college, the idea is not real to them. I want to show my students examples of African Americans from rough backgrounds who have overcome adversity to become great. I especially want my students to see the role post-secondary education played in the lives of these successes.
This proposal will provide my students with reading material about African Americans who have overcome adversity to become successful. These examples of excellence will provide my students with independent reading that is motivating.
Your contribution to my proposal will not only inspire students to do all they can, but will improve their reading levels and spark an interest in reading. You will also give my students a glimpse of the life that education can provide them with. Thank you for considering my proposal. You are truly making a difference in classrooms across the country!
