My students are first graders and the most amazing kids! We are a largely diverse classroom and we have students who are English Language Learners, ESE, struggling students and enriched students. My students love learning and they bring a smile to my face every day!
Recently, students who have had to leave Puerto Rico have joined our class.
They require books that are in their native language, Spanish. They are all hard workers and the sweetest students in the world!
My Project
By putting Spanish books in my library, I will be creating a positive environment for students from Puerto Rico. Many of these students have left their school, homes and families. If I can make them smile just once a day then it is a success.
These students have been through too much already.
They need to have a piece of their home land in their classroom. The majority of these students do not speak English. Having books in their language will allow them to read and remained engaged in the book that they are reading. It is very hard to ask a student to read when they cannot speak the words that they are trying to read.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
