My Students
I love my students and my community! I have amazing students who are driven and always strive to succeed. These students exhibit a wide range of academic skills that demand a variety of ways to enhance their learning. As a teacher, I try to provide engaging, rigorous, and differentiated activities every day.
It is important to me that I provide effective instruction for all my students, including those with special needs.
Many people don't realize that 20% of the population has dyslexia. This means each year there are several students in my classroom with dyslexia.
My Project
Students with dyslexia can still learn to read! But they need a method called, "structured literacy" also known as "Orton-Gillingham." This is an explicit, systematic, and cumulative approach to learning.
Structured literacy is critical for students with dyslexia, but beneficial for all students.
I have recently attended an Orton-Gillingham training and would like to improve my skills further by participating in a practicum opportunity. During the practicum, I will develop lesson plans, be observed, and have a one-on-one coach while using this structured literacy/Orton-Gillingham methodology in my classroom.
This would be an amazing opportunity for me and for my students. It will ensure that my students are getting the best, most effective reading instruction. Reading abilities will improve as I implement the things I learn.
I want to help these students who often feel hopeless and dejected as they trudge through our education system with no real help. Please help me make a difference!
