My Students
My students are amazing and so brave.
All my students are taking the Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Chinese program since their first grade, and they will continue learning Chinese till the 10th grade in their high school, Also, throughout the class, they are supposed to use target language 100% even in first grade.
The DLI Chinese program is intend to teach kid the second language through the content (math, science, Social studies), so they will be able to use the target language in the real world.
This means that they have more challenging courses to take, more homework to do, more efforts to put into their study. At the same time, in order to better help and support them, we need more resources and funds. For example, they may need to do more field experience in the settings where they can apply their target language and experience the culture.
Also, my students are in more need of the teaching tools to have a better understanding of what we are learning in target language. For example, they need to sharpen their interpersonal and representational speaking and listening, so headphones are important to them.
My Project
In ninth grade, they will need to take the Chinese AP Test, half of which is related to speaking and listening. So headphones are a very important learning resource for them to improve their speaking and listening skills, which will make a significant difference to my DLI students,' the AP test, and Chinese learning as well. More important, in the long journey of learning Chinese in the DLI Program, they will understand they are no alone to face the challenge. There are so many nice caring people out there, thinking of them, caring about them.
