Outstanding Teacher Training in World Music

I need to attend the World Music Drumming Level II workshop in Oconomowoc to strengthen my skills in drumming, singing, and teaching.

My Students

My students are full of creative energy. They love coming to music class twice a week to sing, play instruments, and dance. Many of them perform at least once a year for our school community and families.

Our school's drumming program is known for its innovative, hands-on approach to music education.

All students are involved in drumming, with the older students learning the World Music Drumming curriculum.

Through drumming, my students learn how to focus their attention, and listen to each other. They learn about music from all over the world, including West Africa, the Caribbean islands, and North and South America.

My Project

I will attend a World Music Drumming Level II workshop in Oconomowoc. This weeklong workshop will give me the chance to study intensively with Sowah Mensah, a master drummer from Ghana, and other world music professionals from around the United States.

Spending time with master teachers will deepen my understanding of playing and teaching world music, at a time when learning about people and cultures different than my own couldn't be more important.

After this workshop I will be confident and capable of teaching my own students to play the music and understand the cultures represented. My students will be able to share their newly acquired knowledge with their families and their communities through performances.
