This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are requesting Outdoor Lawn Carnival Games, Toss and Catch Ball Game Toys, and other items. Outdoor games can be incredibly beneficial for our students with disabilities in developing social skills and gross motor skills for several reasons:

### 1.

**Engagement and Motivation**

- Outdoor games are often more engaging and fun, which can motivate students to participate actively. This increased interest can lead to more opportunities for interaction and practice of social skills.

### 2. **Natural Social Interactions**

- Playing games outside provides a less structured environment where students can naturally interact with peers. This setting encourages communication, teamwork, and negotiation, helping them develop vital social skills.

### 3. **Physical Activity**

- Gross motor skills, such as running, jumping, and throwing, are enhanced through active play. Outdoor games often require movement and coordination, which can help improve physical abilities and confidence.

### 4. **Peer Modeling**

- Outdoor games allow students to observe and learn from their peers. They can see how others interact, respond, and navigate social situations, which can help them mimic those behaviors.

### 5. **Inclusive Environment**

- Many outdoor games can be easily adapted to include everyone, fostering a sense of belonging. This inclusivity can reduce anxiety and increase willingness to engage socially.

### 6. **Teamwork and Cooperation**

- Many outdoor games require students to work together towards a common goal, promoting teamwork and collaboration. These experiences teach important social skills like sharing, taking turns, and resolving conflicts.

### 7. **Real-World Scenarios**

- Playing outside simulates real-life situations where social skills are necessary. Students can practice initiating conversations, making friends, and understanding social cues in a dynamic environment.

Overall, outdoor games provide a holistic approach to learning that supports physical, social, and emotional development, making them a valuable tool for students with disabilities.
