Outside Journaling to Develop Our Environmental Appreciation
Help me give my students outdoor journaling supplies, such as the floor cushions, to increase their environmental engagement and build their appreciation of our local wildlife.
My students enjoy outdoor hands-on learning experiences. Since a lot of our students are from the urban part of the city, several of them don't have a lot of exposure to wildlife or nature. Getting my students outside gives them an opportunity to learn about our local environment. The more people engage with nature, the more they care about it. Journaling fosters an appreciation for biodiversity and can inspire conservation efforts.
By recording observations over time, students can track ecological changes, understand life cycles, and develop a hands-on appreciation for biology, ecology, and environmental science.
Nature journaling encourages close attention to detail—patterns, colors, behaviors, and seasonal changes in plants and animals. This improves critical thinking and scientific inquiry. Spending time in nature and focusing on the present moment through journaling can reduce stress, improve focus, and enhance overall mental health.
