This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
About My Students
Teaching and learning can become inherently spontaneous and student-centered when moved from the confines of the classroom into the world at large. From the collaborative learning atmosphere that results from the unique relationships developed outside the classroom.
I had been thinking about this project for awhile, so I started asking my students what they thought about it. They were in love with the idea. So, my classroom of awesome kids started writing, why they need an outside classroom?
They told me they get tired of staying in the classroom all the time. It is nice to get to go outside and enjoy learning in different atmospheres.
From the collaborative learning atmosphere that results from the unique relationships developed outside the classroom, to the deep learning that occurs when students must put into practice “in the real world” what they have theorized about from behind a desk, field experiences are unmatched in their learning potential. Field experiences early in a student’s career can be formative and can inspire students to continue in a field.
In Their Own Words
We want to go outside to study, read and learn. We would like to be able to sit outside some through the week, without being in our classrooms all the time. This would give us a chance to talk with other kids in our rooms since we do sit in desks in a row. It does get boring. So with the large bean bags we will be able to go outside and sit.
We will show our teacher that we don't have to been separated all the time. That we are willing to behave outside just like we are inside. We us going outside we have asked to help discuss the lessons more in small groups. By using the large bean bags we will work together and try harder.
We all come from different living styles. This will give each of our friends an outlet to learning in a different way. Some of our friends do not have bean bags to just sit around in, so this would be a new learning experience for them too. We want everyone to have equal times and also to have fun with each other while we are learning. Our teacher cares a lot about us. She wants the best of everything for us.
