We are finishing the first year of our after school robotics program which provides students the opportunity to grow their coding and robotics skills through participation in local, and state competitions and challenges with emphasis on the planning and design process while building character, growing confidence, and developing habits of learning with a focus on collaboration and critical thinking skills. Our curriculum progresses through coding skills -from block coding to python- and increases the complexity/capabilities of the robots and is supported by Open Source Kids (a local non-profit), local school/community based robotics programs, and our parents.
Help our students create a robotics lab to provide a space for them to build and store their robots, write code, and engage in the engineering process.In our second year, our students would greatly benefit from replacement parts and pieces to ensure working robots next year.
Our lab would benefit from storage drawers to organize LEGO pieces and more extension cords to charge their robots and hubs. Our students greatly need whiteboard space to brainstorm solutions, draw design ideas, communicate with teammates, and keep track of agendas.
Nearing the end of our first year of robotics, I have been so impressed with their perserverence and creativity in building and coding their robots to solve their various missions and challenges throughout the year. I can see their progress in not only their technical skills but in their communication, collaboration, and presentation skills as well. Please help me make sure that next year's students have the same opportunity!
