This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are brilliantly resilient scholars who come from immigrant, blue-collar households close to downtown LA. Many of them attend school year-round to catch up on reading and writing skills. These students tirelessly work toward fluency in English while continuing to persevere through the struggles of their community.

The culture we are promoting at our school is college readiness through the use of strategies such as physical organization, note-taking, and paraphrasing.

Students are called to be leaders in their community and use their critical thinking skills to help better our communities! Students show up every day ready to tackle the day's objectives and build community with one another.

My Project

COVID has changed the way we operate as teachers and coaches. This equipment will allow us to start practicing outdoors while keeping the girls safe from COVID and protected from the LA sun! The girls are ecstatic about continuing to learn the sport of volleyball, but in an outdoor setting.

The portable bench, shade, score board, and electronic whistle will greatly help!

These materials will also hold the girls accountable for being responsible. They are looking forward to even playing on the weekends together! With these materials, the girls can learn all elements of the game!
